History of The Zipper in Fasfhion

The zipper has kept people together forever. The zipper is currently apart of everyday fashion so it is easily taken for granted. Elias Howe invented the sewing machine in 1815 "for an "automatic continuous clothing closure" Marry Bellis infers. Colonel Lewis Walker and Whitcomb both had parallel ideas to make a closure of a garment easier so together the created a universal, fastener company to help manufacture closures (clasp lockers). Gideon Sunback's idea to create a system to increase the amount of fastener of a garment by 4 to 11 per inch. that has two facing rows of teeth that are then pulled together and closed by a slider. Boots and tobacco bags were the first to have this new invention of the time. Up until 1930, children's clothes were made with zippers this then halped children learn self-reliance. In 1937 French Designers raved over the new invention of the zipper they called it "Battle of The Fly" today the is everywhere with thousand of miles of it being produced daily to help meet the needs of the people.

Oscar Ceremony of 2016

The 89th annual academy award ceremony, A.K.A the Oscars was held February 26, 2017 to announce and honors the best films, actors and actresses of 2016. Hundreds of millions of movie lovers sit in front of their television, tuning in to watch the amazing Oscars. With live performances, memorials, and  more, sit in anticipation to see celebrities of all kinds get nominated and or awarded for their acting. Some people even feel strong emotionally about actors and actresses as they portray themselves in movies that might have gotten someone out of a rough patch, through a long night, a summer day, a breakup, eta. As this is a big night for the actors and actresses as well as the audience the best looks and appearances is needed. The night was definitely filled with  glam and couture from top to bottom not one look was disaster. One look everyone can say stole the night for me Janelle Monae in Elie Saab Couture, struts her way on to the red carpet with her chin up and no F*#ks to give. the gown was black, gold and white, with beautiful design and a silhouette for days that flatters not only her body and personality. this is the dress that caught my eye simply because if the bold look and color, to me it would have stole the night even if held on a clothes hanger. never the liss there were three trend of the night, fitted dresses -Luciana Barroso, Busy Philips in Elisabeth Kennedy, and Priyanka Chopra in Ralph & Russo, Cinderella dresses - Kristen Bunst in Dior Haute Couture, Jenelle Monae in Elie Saab Couture and Selma Hayek in Alexander Mcgueen and finally all black tuxedos like Mahershala Alie in Armanegildo Zgna, black and white suits such as Matt Damon's, and what and black tuxedos such as Dev Patel in a custome burbary. These trends created an atmosphere of strong personality, wealth, and recognition. This to me is why Designers dress Actors and actresses in the garment to gain publicity, recognition, and credibility. Overall the night was a spectacular to all and was the highlight to all actors and actresses of the year.

Best and Worst of the Grammy's

The 59th annual Grammy awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles brought out music's brightest stars and some of live TV’s biggest moments. We can pretty much say in confidence that we’ve seen just about everything at the Grammy’s. Surprising enough, the Grammy’s red carpet exposed more skin than most of the other award ceremonies held for celebrities. The best look of the night was Adele’s beautiful dress that was more than flattering to her body but to her personality. From the beautiful forest green color to the bold lines and designs, her outfit from head to toe was nothing but glamorous. When there is a best dressed there is definitely a worst. As stars hit the red carpet for music's biggest night on sunday in an array of outrageous fashion. Surprisingly enough it wasn't Lady Gaga who showed up in the most risque outfit of the night. Though Lady Gaga did show much skin, Hasley had everyone popping out of there seats when she showed up at the Grammy’s in a blue silk outfit that looked like there was a accident waiting to happen. While Girl Crush struts her way down the red carpet in a gown that looks as though she jumped into a ball pit a few moments before arriving. Heidi Klum also wore a see through, silver, above the knee dress that one can obviously see her black bra and underwear. But nevertheless, these three celebrities weren't the worst dressed of the evening, though there outfit left most people speechless. Jacqueline Van Dierk wore a dress covered in CD’s, literally leaving everyone baffled. This dress would possibly be flattering without the CD’s and Jacqueline in the dress, but overall the gown was nothing but hideous. It literally looks as though she walked into a record store and covered herself in her favorite albums. Though the night was a huge hit for most of the celebrities, the Grammy’s showcase fashion that is in no way comparable to lets say the Oscar’s. Celebrities wear outfits to show off and make there own appearance, to dignify their own unique abilities as an artist. The Oscar’s on the other hand show actors and actresses in the best and most elaborate outfits and glamour yet. To dignify their own self as a successful artist as well. Celebrities most likely risk wearing such outrages outfits to make a point of who they are as individuals and why they stand out. For the best and worst dressed celebrities at the Grammy’s i hope you made the impression you wanted to make.

Ms. Brooks-Revis started a fashion blog and discovers sewing as a way to make a continuous wardrobe on a budget. The best part of it all is the customization of a pattern to alter garments."
